Program-Mutual Aid Disaster Drill or MADD in Hopland, 2008
Due to lack of representatives from Hopland, we used this day to
formulate ideas and discussed possible scenarios and training
opportunities. Although this drill is meant for Local
Government, CalFire’s influence and participation was discussed.
This committee agreed that the need exists for more Training
Specialists to participate in order to streamline the sign off
of Task Books for the various positions filled. Also up for
discussion was the creation of ways to assist in the
coordination of different events and modules. One of the
strongest requests was a module to assist STL and CO’s in
Structure Triage.
Mendocino Community College
Marcus Young advised that the Community College has
approximately 105 students in the Fire Science Program. The
level 1 classes are progressing as scheduled, and Management 1,
Command 1A and 1B will occur this spring semester. Building
construction and fire safety fire firefighters are two other
ongoing classes.
Some additional classes offered by MCC include Drug Abuse
recognition, PC 832 and NIMS 700 and ICS 100/200. MCC is also
working on some instructor development classes.
ROP
Mike Ciancio gave an update on the academy, and there was some
concern over classroom etiquette between instructors and
student. There was some general discussion on the generation gap
and work ethics of some of the younger population.
Chris Wilznik from Eureka Fire will be in Laytonville on April 5
and 6 with their burn trailer. April 5 will be for the academy
members, and April 6 will be for the County Departments.
Additional Academy costs were discussed, including the
possibility of propane for the FLAG class in Willits. It was
agreed to deal with these costs as they occur.
