Minutes of the Meeting
February 24, 2005
Anderson Valley Fire Department

Meeting called to order by Chairman, Steve Wells.

Introduction: Peter Feary MFD, Chuck Yates UFD, Pam Holmes CFD, Jeff Adair UVFD, Colin Wilson AVFD, Roger Dingman SCFD, Jim Harrison Rehit.

Chief Wilson was thanked for hosting the meeting and providing snacks and lunch.

Minutes: Minutes from previous meeting were approved.

Programs: Steve Wells reviewed the upcoming terrorist based exercise in Fort Bragg on May 21, 2005, and handed out an information sheet prepared by exercise director Mike Ciancio. Jim Harrison and Chuck Yates also participated. Participation from all departments was encouraged.

Old Business: Chuck Yates reminded everyone of the upcoming Wildland Academy and North Tree live burn in Ukiah. Jeff Adair added S-290 Class in Ukiah Valley April 25-29, 2005. Several members express an interest in Instructor 1-A & 1-B. Chuck Yates to pursue college path. Steve Wells will seek instructors.

New Business: Chuck Yates explained National Fire Academy and offered to help with applications. if anyone is interested in attending this excellent learning opportunity. Jim Harrison advised group on upcoming S.O. training in April. Jeff Adair shared an idea he has developed in Ukiah Valley. Two engine companies compete in a timed event similar to a scavenger hunt. Companies are sent out with a map to find a predetermined location, fight a simulated vehicle fire, locate FDC’s, knox boxes and so on. There is a proctor with each company to ensure proper techniques and to direct the next move. The company with the best time wins. Contact Jeff Adair for details.

Open discussion: Much discussion re: F.R.O. training and recert. Chuck Yates indicated there are W.M.D. grants available for funding. Jim Harrison also indicated he will pursue the county Haz-Mat fund for these classes.

Web Site: All agreed the web page is great. Steve Wells encouraged groups to feed it information, photos, and department activities, etc. FirefighterCloseCalls.com is a valuable site. Perhaps a link from our site?
